The first time you visit your chiropractor you will need to book a phone consultation, so that your chiropractor can assess whether treatment is appropriate, at this time, considering the risks associated with Covid-19. This consultation may also be used to collect medical and background information as part of your full consultation, to ensure that your chiropractor can perform a treatment that is safe and tailored to your individual needs.
The second part of your full consultation includes examination and treatment and should take around 45 minutes. Subsequent treatments will normally take between 30 and 45 minutes. For all face to face appointments, your chiropractor will be wearing PPE as recommended by the government. We are also asking all patients to wear a mask or face covering to help keep everyone safe.
Our short 15 minute consultation and spine check is not currently available due to Covid-19.
Short consultation and spine check (15 mins)
You may choose to book a free spine check before deciding to commit to a full initial consultation. This will give you the opportunity to learn more about how chiropractic can help you. The chiropractor will do a quick check of the spine and pelvis and will briefly explain the purpose of chiropractic and answer any questions you may have. If you are in pain or have some particular reason for seeking chiropractic, the chiropractor will taylor the discussion to your needs. If you have questions about chiropractic and are unsure whether chiropractic could help you, the spine check is a great way to find out more before booking a full consultation. This consultation does not include any diagnosis or treatment.
Full initial consultation (up to 90 mins including examination and treatment)
At your first appointment, your chiropractor will work through a complete medical history and physical examination to get a thorough picture of any presenting complaint. The examination may include neurological, orthopaedic and medical tests such as taking your blood pressure or listening to your breathing. The tests are selected by the chiropractor to help them understand the possible reasons for any pain or dysfunction you present with and to check that there are no reasons why chiropractic would be inappropriate for you.
Your chiropractor will then explain their findings form the examination and answer any questions you may have. A treatment plan will be proposed based on your medical history and examination. You will then receive full body McTimoney chiropractic care.
Although unlikely, it is possible that occasionally the examination will detect some reason that treatment would not be appropriate, for example, if you have a broken bone. If this happens the chiropractor will refer you to the most relevant health professional.
Subsequent treatments (30 to 45 mins)
If you have visited your chiropractor with pain or dysfunction, it is likely that you will need more than one appointment to properly address the problem. The number of appointments you need will vary, depending on the nature of the problem you present with and the individual way that your body responds to treatment. This will be discussed at your first visit and checked at each subsequent visit in case your treatment plan needs to be revised. Most patients need around 2 to 6 treatments.
When the treatment plan is ended, you may choose to attend for regular chiropractic care. One visit every 3 months can often be enough to help prevent re-occurance, though you may find it helpful to visit more often if you regularly do heavy work or a lot of physical activity.
